The front cover of Sleeping Beauty, published by Ladybird Books. That gorgeous cream yellow dress she wears, which simply gushes with elegance and pride, formed a great part of my childhood memories. The dress was perfectly fitted and always long and flowing, with those full sleeves. The style of it was a dream in itself. The visual aids were so crucial.
Definitely an “easy reading” book - but isn’t it funny how as children we romanticise even those darker details, like the conspicuous character on the left of the cover. I don’t know whether it is just my corruption into adulthood, but every fairy tale now has this very obvious polluted mystery that fights with the pure and honest moral. Both sides fight and join in this oddly symbiotic relationship, to reach the climax of the story.
